Reading Challenges for 2017

As an avid reader, I like to join reading challenges each year. They’re a lot of fun, plus it gives me a good excuse to buy even more books in addition to the ones I check out of the library. The ones with categories encourage people to read things they might ordinarily overlook, like a novel from a certain time period or non-fiction in a specific field.  Here’s a list of the ones I’m participating in for 2017:

Goodreads 2017 Reading Challenge
You set the number of books you want to read (which you can change at any time), and then a cute little widget on the Goodreads sidebar will keep track for you. You can put the widget on your webpage too. Goodreads is an awesome place to find new books for your to-read list and discuss all things reading related. My goal is set for 52 books this year.

52 Books in 52 Weeks
This one is all kinds of fun! The idea is to read one book a week, then type the title in their Linky widget, and you have the option to enter the url where you left a review (Goodreads, Amazon, or your blog or website). Some books might take 3 weeks to finish while some only take a day, but that’s fine. This challenge has a bunch of mini-challenges and themes to choose from, or you’re welcome to wing it and read whatever you like.

Challenges from your Local Library
I take my daughter to Story Hour at the library each week. When we were checking books out this past December, I noticed a stack of 2017 Book Challenge print outs on the counter. Score and Woo hoo! You should definitely check your favorite library to see if they have one going this year.

Do you set reading goals? If so, are you trying to read book a week or planning to chip away at one ginormous novel like War and Peace a few pages at a time? Feel free to share your favorite reading challenges and goals in the comments.
